SHOCKING FATAL ACCIDENT. (FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.) NAPIER. 31st November.

A most lamentable fatal accident occurred at noon to-day, opposite the Daily Telegraph office. Mr. Barry, an old settler and the principal storekeeper in Taradale, called on horseback at the Telegraph office. He afterwards attempted to mount his horse for the purpose of proceeding to the Supreme Court House for the purpose of interviewing the manager of the paper When mounting the horse, it took fright and threw him before he was fairly seated . He fell on the back of his head, and his skull was completely crushed in. Medical assistance wa? at once obtained, but it was of no avail, as he died in great agony two hours after the accidentDeceased was much respected and esteemed. He raised Father Hennebery's teetotal force on that gentleman's visit here, but he was always a temperate mm, and had built up for himself a small fortune. Mr. Bury was an early colonist. He leaves a wife aad young family. Sh rtly after the accident occurred, messengers were sent for Mrs. Barry, who resides four miles from town, and, just as she stepped inside the door of the house in which Mr. flurry died, he breathed nis last. Au inquest was held this afternoon on the body of a chid which was found in a utensil at the Railway Hotel, Hastings. Jt was proved to be the child of a servant at Uje hotel who had arrived by t>>e City of Anokland. The evidence showed that the child was sliJl-born. A man named Smith was found dead to-day in an outhouse at the Farndon railway station. He bad been for a lengthened period in the Napier Hospital suffering from a severe internal complaint, to which he has at length succumbed. It is rumored that an attempt will be made to have the libel action of Rees v. Daily Telegraph heard at Wellington.
