The Sydney merchants have held a meeting, at which it was decided to offer the strongest practical resistance to the strike of seamen, &c, of the A.S.N. Company. 20th November. The Australian team have just commenced their first match since their return to this country. The Government proposals for railway extension comprise 1112 miles. They will be submitted to the Assembly on 12th December. The Chamber of Commerce at a meeting condemned the action of the men on strike. The company's engineers refuse to join the Be&mon. ' Efforts at mediation have again failed. A meeting of shareholders will be held to-morrow to consider the position. Melbourne, 29th November. Reuters agents have been requested to publish the followidg throughout the colonies from the President of the St. Andrew's Society to the Scottish residents in tho colonies : — " Scotchmen — In the name of the Scottish nation we ask your aid for the shareholders ruined by the City of Glasgow Bank's failure. £500,000 is required to meet the claims on the fund now being raised.
