I HAVE now been out of employment for seven weeks, and am consequently in debt for the necessaries of life ; indeed 1 am quite out of funds and have been granted rations by Mr. Atchison, Inspector of Police, for myself and wife. My two children being only babies — one eighteen months and the other only two — take up my wife's time, so that she is unable to assist in earning a living. lam 34 years of age, and was employed in Mincing Lane, London, as a clerk at a wholesale grocer's. I came out here hoping to better myself, but though I have tried my hardest I have been only able to obtain irregular employment as a day labourer ; but never having been used to pick and shovel work before coming to New Zealand I am not good at the work, and find it now almost impossible to obtaia any other sort of work. lam now trying for a situation as porter, messenger, kc, and sh_l be most thankful for any assistance in obtaining such work.
