The London Figaro has the following remarks :—": — " Madame Carlo tta Patti has refused an offer of £5000 and expenses for a tour in Australia. Considering that New Zealand would probably be worth an extra £2000, the offer does not seem a small one for a concert vocalist. It must, however, be remembered that Madame Arabella Goddard and Madame lima di Murska netted about £10,000 each during their resoective tours in the Antipodes. They were the tirst great artists in their lines who visited these colonies since the days of Madame Kate Hayes, and consequently the curiosity to see and hear them wps proportionately great."
