Sir— The sneering way in which a great many " gentlemen" with M.H.R.latUShid to their names speak of barmaids araito& nk, ns they do not think them beneath their 'BotfCfe to make companions of, go to the^tbeAtTff'Wftli, take for drives, and otherwise -act the fKirt of " spoons," and when they hßveobtilned their object do not know the unfortunate <younir women. They should bear in mind that feme of these barmaids have been as well j arid perhaps a great deal better brought uptlian they themselves. '. v • • >>r. Now, a word to landlords. Instead of insulting these young women, they ought to do all they can to protect them, their calling beinoanything but an enviable one, having to listen to all the absurd language of the young and old "spoons." ¦ What the police are about that tliey cannot see the sly grog selling going pn under their noses on Lambton Quay, I don't know.
