LATEST. RUSSIAN ARMY RETIRED BY NIGHT. BOMBARDMENT OF PLEVNA HEIGHTS LONDON. 9th September.
A Russian official despatch states that the army of the Czar has been withdrawn to a new position at night. The Russians now are concentrated at Zeig, where works ore being carried on unobserved by the enemy. The heights of Plevna were bombarded continuously on the 7th instant. Yesterday (Bth) the Russian left wing occupied the southern height*, losing five hundred men killed; whilst the position of the right wing and centre is only thirteen hundred yards from the Turkish entrenchments. Cannonading is going on f urioualy.
