The Waka Maori libel case was. continued yesterday afternoon after we went, to press, until twenty minutes past five o'clock, when Mr. Macassey concluded his reply on behalf of the plaintiff. The case was again resumed this morning at ten o'clock, when his Honor the Chief Justice began his summing up, and generally reviewed the evidence given in court, and also that which had been taken before the • Commission" at Napier. The Court adjourned shortly before one o'clock for an hour, and on resuming at, two o'clock, his Honor continued, his address to the jury. The following are' the issues which will be submitted to the jury this afternoon. First. Did the defendants maliciously print. and publish of the plaintiff the , words in- the Maori language set forth in the first count of the declaration; and also in the English langßage ; as'idiscloeled inithe second count of the declaration? Were the said words defamatory of the tplaintiff?' Were the words set forth in, the first and second counts true, and is the plaintiff entitled to any, and if so^wha^diMnages?. , , , .,,/,.» Captain Graham of the Robina Dunlop, acting under- the advice. of .his Counsel, Mr. Quick, has petitioned his Excellency the Governor to set aside the decision of the Court of Enquiry, by whioh-hfr certificate was suspended for two years'. It fe contended that the enquiry was not properly instituted, that the Court was-imprpperiy. constituted, and that the proceedings were irregularly conducted. As the case, thus is still suijudke, any comment would be premature. " The ordinary fortnightly meeting of the Waste Lands Board- was' held -at noon to-day. Present-r>lr. J. G, Hpldsworth, Chief Commissioner, in the chair, Messrs. Walter Johnston, M.H.R., andT. Mason. The Chairman reported that during the past fortnight the land sales amounted to 4637 acres 2 roods 8 perches, and the, receipts to £3567 ss. A progress report on the surveys proceeding was received from the Chief Surveyor. Permission was granted to Messrs. Hastwell and Macara to occupy 100 acres at Mauriceville (as per plan) as a coacKng- station.
