THE MIDWINTER GRAND HANDICAP.
*_— TO THE .EDITOR OF THE EVENING POST. Sir — Can you give me any information respecting the event advertised last Juno as the Midwinter Grand Handicap, with the signature of H. Maco as treasurer, &c, which was to have been run for on the Bth and 15th July, but at a meeting called for an understanding was arrived at between tho promoters of the sports and the competitors, which was to the effect that the running for the handicap should be postponed to a date not later than the end of the present month, the competitors having their entrance money returned them, and relying upon the honor of those organizing tho sports for the fulfilment of their promise. Most of the intending competitors are anxiously looking forward for some announcement to justify them in commencing training, but so far none ias appeared. Rumor says that tho promoters have backed out of their responsibility, and the postponed Midwinter Grand Handicap is "up a tree." For the sake of those concerned, I hope this is not the case. I am, &c, Pedestrian. Wellington, 11th September.
