Arrived. — 10.15 a.m., Taranaki, from Wellington : John Knox, barque, from Wellington. Sailed. — Excelsior, schooner, for Wellington and Wanganui. Bluff, 27th August. Arrived. — The Balnaguith, barque, from London, with a general cargo, 120 days out ; no passengers. Nelson, 27th August. Arrived.- — II a.ra., Havvea, from Picton. Foxton, 27th August. Arrived. — 8 p.m., Matau, from Wellington. Auckland, 28th August. Arrived.— 6.4s a.m., Zealandia, from Napier. Port Chalmers, 28th August. Arrived. — Columbus, barque, from London. She left on the 27th May, and crossed the equatof on the 31st day out ; passed the Snares on 16th inst. On the 17th inst., Wm. Bock, an A.8., fell off the royal yard, struck the rail, and fell into the sea. Two life-buoys were thrown to the unfortunate man, but as he made no effort to grasp them, it was evident that he received his death from striking the rail. It was impossible to round the ship to, owing to the heavy weather.

- ¦ • Advices have been received that the N.Z.S. Co.'s ship Hurunui, from Wellington, arrived at London under 90 days. The ship Midlothian was berthed at the wharf this morning. She was towed up to the inner anchorage by the s.s. Moa. The p.s. Manawatu, after a passage of 13 hours from Wanganui, arrived here at 8 o'clock yesterday morning. She sails for Wanganui to-morrow evening. Tho s.s. Rangatira left Napier at 9.5*0 a.m. on Saturday, and arrived in Wellington at 12.15 p.m. yesterday, bringing 19 cabin passengers. She sails for Napier and Poverty Bay to-morrow afternoon. The s.s. Kiwi loft Napier at 10.20 a.m. on Saturday, and arrived in our harbor at 1.15 p.m. yesterday. She returns to Napier, via Castlepoint, this evening, taking cargo for Poverty Bay. The s.s. Ringarooma, Captain J. M'Lean, arrived in our harbor at noon yesterday from Melbourne, via tho South, with the Suez mail. She.l eft* Melbourne at 2.15 p.m. on the 19th inst., experienced fine weather, and arrived at the Bluff at 10 p.m. on the 23rd ; left at 4.40 p.m. on the 24th, arrived at Dunedin at 7.15 a.m. following day; sailed at 4.10 p.m., and reached Lyttelton at 9.45 a.m. on the 26th; sailed again at 5.45 p.m., arriving in Wellington as above. She took her departure for Nelson at 3.20 this afternoon. The ketch Otaki, from Tory Channel, with a cargo of whale oil, arrived here at 7 p.m. yesterday; iShe is to go on Cofley and Dixon's slip this evening for an overhaul. The cutter Dido, with a cargo of timber for the railway works at Petoni, arrived from Picton on' Friday night. Tho barque Britain is now on her way from Sydney to Wellington', with a cargo of coals. She is to bo dismantled here, and turned into a storeship for the s.s. Easby's coals. The mail steamor Zealandia, from Wellington, arrived at Napier at 12.30 p.m. on Saturday, and at Auckland at G. 45 this morning. Captain Williams' vessels sail for Newcastle as follows : — Barque Anne Melhuish on the 30th inst., brig Robin Hood on the 31st inst., and brig Neptuno on the 2nd September. The ketch Glimpse arrived at Wanganui from Wellington on Thursday last. The steamship Tafarua is undergoing extensive alterations at Melbourne. The masts arc taken out, with a view to rigging her liko others of the fleet to which she belongs. The engines and boiler have been removed, and no tiire will be lost in replacing them by the new ones on the compound principle, which have been n;ade in Scotland by the builders of this vessel, aad are now ready for shipment, They are of great power ; each of the boilers weigh about 25 tons. During the time this work is proceeding the ship will be covered in, thus giving, a much larger saloon, which, when finished, will in all respects be like that of the Ringarooma or Arawata. The time to complete all this' work is-estiinated at three months.
