In reply to the resolution adopted at the Whangarei meeting, calling on Sir Robert Douglas to support the separation resolutions, the member for Marsden telegraphed refusing to comply, and offering to resign if the electors as a body wished him to do so. The Waipau electors afterwards held a meeting, aud passed a vote of confidence in him ; but urged the throwing out of the Counties Dill. 26th August. Simonsen's Opera Company played "The Hermit's Bell" last night to a crowded house. It was a great success, and incessant encores were demanded. Madame Simonsenand Signor Morley were cheered with great excitement. The opera will probably be repeated for some time.
