Mr. Kelly brought up, among reports from the Petitions Committee, the committee's recommendation on the claims of the Hokitika and Greymouth Tramway Company for compensation for loss sustained through the opening of a Government road, which competed with their tramway. The recommendation was that 400 acres per mile of tramway be given to them out of the lands within the province of Westland. The award of the Commissioners was £1880. This award is equal to 3600 acres of land The questions on the paper were purely of local and indifferent interest
