Seventy of the unemployed sent in an application for stonebreakiug. The Governmeut advertise, offering employment to all wanting it. 23rd August. Charles Thomas Horan, a Post office clerk, was charged this morning with stealiug newspapers from the Post Office. He was remanded for a week. A large number of the unemployed assembled at the Provincial Government Buildings this moruiug, iv ret-pouse to an advertisement offering /work. They have been put on road work at six shillings a day, tools and teuts fbuud. The Guardian accuses the General Government in their action re Waste Land Board and sale of mouutaiu tops as being the cause of the present distress, by the stoppage of provincial public works.
