SPECIAL TO THE POST. THE HARBOR BOARD. SICKNESS AND DISTRESS(FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.)
The majority of the Harbor Board members are to address Ormond, asking him to convene a meeting to re-consider the Bank tenders re the loan. Ormond took the wind out of their sails by legally accepting the tender, and concluding the negotiation with the Bank of Australasia. This is looked upon as an arbitrary proceeding, as the Board lose by the transaction £500 at the outset. Low fever is prevalent, more especially at Te Aute. Several men recently employed on the railway works have been thrown on a bed of sickness, consequently they have no money coming in. There are several cases of real ?overty, and an appeal is made to the public, 'he only assistance yet rendered is by the Rev. S. Williams and bis wife, who are doing their utmost to relieve the sufferers. • - ? — -
