WELLINGTON DISTRICT HIGHWAY BOARD.
The usual monthly meeting of this Board was held at the office, Hutt, yesterday. Present — Messrs. Sinclair, Speedy, Searanke, Taylor, Monaghan, Smith, and Mason (chairman). The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The following sums were ordered to be paid :-r-No. 1 Ward: J. M'Leavy and others, repairs, £4 125. ; T. Barnes. £1 11s. 6d.; G. Sievers, £2 2s. No. 2 Ward: J. Wilmslmrst, £11 16s. lOd. ; B. Keif, £4 11s. No. 3 Ward : E. Draper, £3 10s. No. C Ward : If. Swain, £7 145. ; R. Hunter, £11 7s. 6d. Contingencies, £18 3s. 7d. The following resolutions were carried : — That the letter signed by six ratepapers in No. 1 Ward, giving notice of their intention to ask for a separation of their ward from the district, so as to form a separate district, having been considered, the Board expresses no dissatistaction with the proposition, provided that the separation doas not take place until the termination of the present financial year (30th June, 1870). That the tender of William Howell. to keep in repair the main road in the Panautanui Small Farm district for the bum of £85 for twelve months, be accepted. Tenders declined : Henry Harris, £105 ; David Harris, £155. That the Clerk be instructed to ask the Superintendent to direct an engineer to lay off a line of road from the termination of the lower Wainuiomata road towards the coast through sections Nos. 29, 30, and 31. That the following tenders for repairs in No. 2 Ward be accepted: — Henry Damant, Horakiwi road, £C 5; John Morgan, Old Porirua road, £46; Thomas Morgan, Upper Tukapu road, £19 ; John Morgan, Porirua Bay road, £10 103.; Thomas Morgan, South Tukapu, £18; Thomas Wilton, Otari, Wadestown, £35. Tenders declined — John Morgan, Upper Tukapu, £10 10s; Henry Thompson, South Tukapu Road, £20. That the Warden No. 2 Ward be authorized to expend a sum not exceeding £10 in metalling the Tawa Flat School-house Road." That the rates collected in the district outside the Karori (that is theOhiroand Peninsula districts} be expended in those districts." For the resolution, Messrs. Sinclair, Speedy, Taylor, Searanke, Smith, and Mason; against, Monaghan. That the tender of James Barnes for £25 for metalling road from junction of North Makara Road to Mr. Cook's gate be accepted, subject to approval of the overseer. That the following tenders for repairs of the roads in Ward No. 1 be accepted, subject to confirmation by the Board at its next meeting in January :— G. Monk and P. Anderson, No. 1 contract, £14u; Hooper and Hawkins, No. 4 contract, £*J; William Longhurst, Nos. 2 and 3 contracts, £97." Tenders declined — Monk and Anderson, North Makara,- £B7; Michael O'Shea, North i and South Makara, £120; N. Monaghan, ! Karori Road, £220, ] Considerable discussion ensued relative to the erection of a bridge at Pahautanui Small Farm district, which resulted in the Chairman consenting to lay the subject before his Honor the Superintendent.
