THE WINTER TRADE. THE CLOTHING DEPARTMENT. J. M'DOWELL & CO. WISH to direct attention to their Stock of Clothing for the approaching Winter's Trade, a large portion of the Stock being Colonial made and manufactured to their especial order. There is also a speciality to which attention is directed, namely, REAL IRISH FRIZE, both in the piece and in the various shapes of Men's Overcoats, now J. M-DOWELL & CO. devote very great attention to the Clothing and Outfitting Departments, their object being to provide a Stock of Goods equal to those made to measure, in addition to the great advantage of affording a larger extent of stock to select from than can be met with elsewhere. As our clothing stock is made up under the personal supervision of our clothing buyer, we can with confidence ask an inspection from those laying in a supply for the approaching jseasion, as the same reasonable prices for which Victoria House has become so noted are strictly adhered to. PRELTMINAEY NOTICE. empirClho use. NEW DRAPERY AND CbOTHJNG ESTABLISHMENT, CORNER OF * CUBA AND MANNER - STREETS. ftßOSftF PIEIE

HAS much pleasure in announcing to the inhabitants of Wellington and country districts that he will shortly open those commodious and centrally situated premises, now nearly completed, corner of Cuba and Manner-streets, as a GENERAL DRAPERY and CLOTHING WAREHOUSE, with a large and varied assortment of NEW and SEASONABLE GOODS, selected personally by the advertiser from the leading manufacturers and warehousemen in England, and trusts, from the special advantages he will be enabled to offer, to gain a fair share of public patronage. G.P., although a stranger in Wellington, has had many years' experience in the Colony, and is thoroughly versed in the description of goods required for this market, and has just returned from England, where he was fortunate in making, the most satisfactory arrangements with manufacturers and others for a continuous supply of goods of the newest and choicest description. He has also secured the services of one of the most extensive buyers in London to select and forward regular shipments, thus placing him in the most favourable position for receiving goods at the lowest price it is possible to import them for, and thereby saving all intermediate profits. ,„- .-G?P!j in commencing business in Wellington, has resolved upon gaining not only the confidence of the public, but also the enviable reputation of giving the best value for money in the City. The age of large profits, and the speedy realisation of colossal fortunes, has now passed away, so far aa regards the drapery trade, consequently the sole aim of the advertiser will be a fair return for labour and capital invested, and that object will be attained by selling at prices far below those usually adhered to. G.P. has determined upon conducting his business entirely on a cash basis, both in buying and selling, as otherwise it is impossible to give the cash paying customers the advantages in cheap goods that they have a right to expect. It is unnecessary to say that a credit business entails many heavy expenses in its management '• that a cash trade escapes," and of which the cash buyers have to contribute an undue proportion. To all reflecting minds, tllis view of the case must be clear, aud now that a bona fide effort is to be made in the right direction, all economical purchasers of drapery and clothing will hail with pleasure the advent of the new system. In consequence of being unable to get premises finished earlier, so as to take full advantage of the winter trade, the advertiser finds jbhat he will be left with his immense stock at the middle of the season, and in order to ensure a speedy clearance of winter goods, all idea of profit has been abandoned, so that those who have not yet made their winter purchases will advantage themselves by waiting for a few days for the opening of * GEORGE PIE. IE' S. NEW DRAPERY AND CLOTHING ESTABLISHMENT, Corner of Cuba and Manner-streets. OPEN SAT tTr DAY NEXT, sth JUNE.
