TIMARU. 9th July.

News has been received that the Merope was to sail in May or June for Timaru direct with 300 immigrants, and that the Agent-General intends to send ships periodically direct to Timaru. A child named Pratty, four years old, was burned to death at Temuka. Her mother left her sitting on the hob while she went out. In ten minutes she came back aud found the child dead on the floor, and the room full of smoke. A verdict of accidentally burned to death was returned.
