John Fulham, engaged at pile-driving at one of the whaives, has received nasty injuries by the monkey jamming his head against a pile. His face was smashed, and his head bruised. In a case this morning, brought by the Inspector under the Adulteration of Food Act, Mr. Oliver, the magistrate, decided, by the last provision in section four, that sellers of adulterated food or drink are not liable to a penalty if such articles have not been previously notified in the Gazette of the province in which such seller shall reside, to be adulterated or impure. The two "nots" in proviso neutralise each other. The Bench stated that the Inspector could never obtain a conviction till the Act was altered. I loth April. Margaret Collins, charged with infantcide, at Milton, was found guilty of manslaughter, with a recommendation to mercy. Her sentence was two months" imprisonment with hard labour. The Judge directed the prisoner to be kept from other females in gaol.
