MEETING OF THE TOWN BOARD.

A meeting of the Town Board was held yesterday afternoon at the Board of Works Office. Messrs. Dransiield (chairman), E. W. Mills (treasurer), Plimmer, Mantell, Carpenter, Quin. and Moss, weve present. WATER SUPPLY. _ A letter presented by Mr. Felix "Wakefield was read, in which it was stated that the Colonial Secretary was prepared to allow the Board to use the surplus water contained in the Government reservoir, estimated at ovsr 30,003 gallons in 24 hours. The delivery could bo niade at either one, two, or thvee places, as might be convenient for distribution, viz., at the Terrace end of Kuuiutotostreet, at Mr. Brandon's corner, and at the corner of Hill and Molesworbh-streets. The terms demanded were £G0 a-year, or 5 per cent, upon the coat of the works. A condition was inserted that the Board should place in a state of thorough repair that portion of Hill-street situate near the Catholic Cathedral. Mr. Wakefield was thanked by the Board, and, on the motion of Captain. Sharpe, seconded by Mr. Carpenter, it was agreed that the offer be referred to a sub-committee, to consist of the Commissioners of Lambton Ward, who would report thereon. FINANCE. Several accounts for salary, wages, &c, weie read, considered, and passed. Thef balance in the hands of the Treasurer was stated to be £203 16s 4d, but a. number of cheques had been drawn against it, which would almost exhaust that amount. RETRENCHMENT. The motion of Mr. Quinn, relative to retrenchment, was next introduced, when Mr. Mills moved as an amendment, "That notice be given to the surveyor that his services could not be retained after the first of January next, except upon the original arrangement made with, him, viz., £150 a year for half of his time ; and that the messenger be dispensed with after that date. 1 ' Mr. Moss seconded the amendment, and it was carried. ENCROACHMENT. A complaint having been received that Zslr. Gill's property encroached upon the street, it was resolved that he be served with the usual notice to remove it. .RETURNS. On the motion of Mr. Carpenter, it was resolved that a return be furnished aud laid upon the table, of the expenses, rent, &c., of the Board. The meeting then separated.
