Affair of Honour.

A runiour is current in town that two gentlemen well known in Brisbane have been foolish, enough to settle a trivial dispute in the manner considered necessary " in good society" some half century ago. The circumstances giving lise to the quarrel, as detailed to us, were as follow ; — At the late assembly ball at the School of Arts, one of the two gentlemen, whose names we suppress at present, was engaged to dance with a certain lady, considered one of the belles of the ball, but failed to keep his engagement punctually. After the dance had commenced, the second gentleman availed himself of the opportunity to persuade the lady to punish the offender by allowing his name to be scratched oft the card and his own to be substituted. Of course there was no quarrel in the ball room, but a few evenings afterwards both gentlemen met, and an angry dispute commenced, which eventually came to blows. Not satisfied with knocking each other down, the gentlemen, in spite of the persuasions of their friends, determined to have a hostile meeting with pistols. "We are informed that the meeting actually tools place, some distance from town, on Saturday, and that all the necessary formalities were complied with. One gentleman returned to town unhurt, but the other remained behind, tino will, it is said, be in the doctor's hand,' for some time to come. It seems a pit) that either should get off scatheless. — Courier. — Sydney Paper.
