TOWN BOARD.
The usual fortnightly meeting of the Commissioners was held at the Hoard- room yesterday afternoon, at 3 o'clock. There were present — Messrs. Dransficld (chairman) Borlase, PlimnKr, Mantell, Bishop, I'liarazyn, Mills, Hunter, ami Qnin. The minuteg of last meeting were read and confirmed. A letter was read from Mr. J. M. Owing to the unfavorable state of the weather, nothing had been done to the teneing in Hill street. VtXtra hands had been put on Lambton Quay, and the work on that street was now boing proceeded wifh h-j rapidly as possible. The metalling of Cuba "street was also being proceeded with, and stone supplied by Mr. Tonks was Lung put down, and some metal had' beeu got from Mount Victoria as a top dressing. With reference to the lighting of the street lamps, Mr. Quiti stated that he had given some of th£m more ventilation, and found fiat thoy burned better and gave more light. The lamp heads were ordertd to be painted, and Mr. Quin undertook to see that they were all i r perly ventilated free of expense to the B.iard. The Board (hen took into consideration the necessity of having at lea«t the principal sJreetH of the city metalled before the meeting of the General Assembly. On the motion of Mr. Hunter, the Board resolved to advertise for tenders for metalling Lambton Quay and Willis street, from the Union Bank to Molesworth street. Mr. Mantell stated that he was requested to bring before the notice of the Board the present state of Hobson street. Hp would not, however, press the consideration of the matter. The Surveyor said that before anything could be done in Hobson street it would be necessary to remove two or three fences which now block up the street. The Board therefore resolved not to take nny action in tho m itter at present Thia concluded the business, nud the meeting closed.
