In the Greenstone case the second jury having brought in a special verdict it was arranged in court this morning by consent of all parties, that a special case should be stated for the Court of Appeal. Mr. Justice Gresson leaves for Christchurch to-morrow ; weather permitting. Messrs. Campbell, South, Button, i O'Loughlin, and Abbot the registrar, ! are appointed Commissioners, to receive acknowledgments of married women. More shafts bottomed at the Stafford Hill rush, with great success. The weather is breaking, but the country is still Hooded. Arrived. — Wallaby, from Greymouth. Gothenburg in roadstead; there is no communication with her in consequence of there being too much fresh. She will take away 16,00 ounces of gold. Hokitika 12th August. Arrived. — Keera, from Dunedin, and Gothenburg from Nelson. The Excelsior, from Auckland, is in the roadstead. The weather is very wet, and there is a heavy fresh in the river. The channel is straight and deep, but running like a mill-race. All the rivers are flooded. The Christchurch coach arrived at four o'clock. [by inter-provincial telegraph.] Dunedin, 11th August. Arrived. — Queen from Lyttelton. A large sale of groceries, &c, took place at M 'Laundress, Hepburn and Co.'s yesterday. Good prices were realised. Sinclair and Coey's hams and bacon, Is 3d to Is 4cl j Batty's pickles, 10s 6d \ Tinsh's jams 11s 6d. There was a benefit given to Mr. O'Brien last night, the last appearance but one of Julia Mathews. There was* an overwhelming house. A set of gems and a testimonial have been presented to her, signed by the leading men in the town.
