Qeknscliff, 29th May, The Anglo-Saxon, 543 tons, ninety-four 1 days from Valparaiso, with flour, has arrived, and 0 waits orders. Mr. Tolmie, mate of the schooner Callender, walked over the jetty on Saturday night, and was drowned. The body was found on the beach this morning. Sydney, 26th May. The Qhinaman sentenced to death at last 1 Maitland assizes cannot be executed, because Judge Mil ford is unable (through, it is feared, mortal illness) to sign the deathwarrant, and the other 1 judges consider? considei themselves without jurisdiction. The Jockey Club have fixed the 2nd September as the Derby day. The spring meeting commences on the following Thursday. The debate on the package duty waa resumed in the Assembly to-day, and is unlikely to finish to-night. Government expect to carry their scheme. The schooner Kate Kearney has been totally wrecked among the South Sea Islands. Crew saved. In the Supreme Court, in the case of White v. Cargill, of Dunedin, a verdict! has been given for the plaintiff ; damages, £3085. In the Assembly last night, a debate took place on the proposal of the Government to increase the duties to be collected on certain imports by 20 per cent., and to levy a package duty of Is. The debate was adjourned. The Government agreed to GXQtnpt wheat, tea, sugar, and flour, from the package duties. The cargo of the Charlotte Andrews (wheat) was sold privately this afternoon, at a figure which has not transpired, but stated to bo under 9s per bushel. Messrs. Threlkeld aud Co. have sold the cargo of teas ex Fanny Nicholson. Low to medium congoes, at £7 to £8 ; fair to good do, £8 to £9 ; and boxes at 255. The whole of the shipment was considerably above the average quality. Pat cattle was worth £4 ; sheep, 13s I to 14s A considerable number of fat cattle are travelling overland to Victorian markets. Flour, £21 to £22 ; wheat, 9s to 9s 3d. Sydney, 27 th May. The Assembly last night agreed to the package duty, exempting tea, sugar, flour, and wheat from its operation. The proposal to to increase by 20 per cent, the duties collected on imports, was also agreed to ; and in this case, tea, sugar, brandy, and gin are exempted from the increase proposed. It is thought probable that the Government will introduce ad valorem duties to meet the emergency of an empty exchequer. Judge Milford died at Maitland last night. His body was brought here to-day. The greater portion of the cargo of Chilian wheat, ex Charlotte Andrews, was placed at 8s 9d. Sydney, 29 th May. A large public meeting has been held at the Masonic-hall, and resolutions passed condemning the stamp duties. Judge Milford was buried to-day It war, a very large funeral. All the Government
