NURSE RETURNS FROM ACTIVE SERVICE
Sister S. J. Gibb (nee Janie Greenall) who has been for the last three years on active service with the Middle East forces, returned home on Thursday morning and is now staying with her mother, Mrs Greenall at Southbridge. On arrival at Wellington she received the tragic news that her husband, Corporal Alick Gibb had died of wounds received in Italy. Corporal and Sister Gibb were married in the Middle East in July.
JUNIOR RED CROSS At the annual meeting of the Junior Red Cross Branch of the Southbridge School primary department the president, Heather Denton presided. A letter was received from the secretary of the Southbridge bub-centre, expressing appreciation of the excellent work done by the Junior Red Cross during the year, both m raising money and in knitting and sewing for the forces. Officers elected, were: President, Michael Wilkinson; secretary, Rosaline Eade; treasurer, Murray Gilbertcommittee, Melville Neale, Susan d- P' D- TnomPson, and N. Burt Miss Morrison, N.Z. organiser for the Junior Red Cross reported in a letter that the money Southbridge branch had contributed for European starving children would be used to help in supplying vitamin D for some of the children dying of starvation.
