THE JELLESMERE GROUP

VEGETABLE GROWING

PROJECT

Forty-four entries were received from all parts of the, district for the vegetable growing project of the Ellesmere, group of the Boys' and Girls' Agricultural Clubs. The preliminary local judging in tiie different centres was done by Messrs M. C. Brown (Diinsandel), J. A. Millar (Irwell), H. J. Hurford, R. J. Gilbert (Doyleston), G. L. Barnett (Lakeside), D. J. Ridden and V. G. Mason (Leeston). The records were judged by Mr V. G. Mason and on Monday, Mr D. F. H. White visited the best gardens in the various centres, and made the final judging in the Ellesmeregroup competition. A great deal of time was spent on the project, by all who iieiped with the judging arid the committee and all concerned are grateful to them for their assistance.

The preliminary results were:— : Dunsandel: Noeline Murison and Joy Hill equal 1, Betty Happer and Mavis Sheat equal 3; Brookside: lan Keele 1, Mervyn Keele 2, Marshall Hunter 3; Irwell: Judith McLaugalin 1, Norma Henderson 2; junior, Jennifer McLaughlin 1; Doyleston: Connie and lan Tweedie equal 1; , Lakeside: Eileen Cooper and Edward Overton equal 1; junior, Brian Chambers 1; Leeston: Richard Cartwright 1, David White 2, Colin Johnson 3; Killinchy: Junior, Mervyn Rathgen l.
