World's Oldest Cow
TWENTY-NINE YEARS OF AGE
AN AYRSHIRE'S GREAT RECORD
Thirty years ago a cow of the Ayrshire breed was exported to Australia from Scotland. She had a calf named "Victoria," and this animal has just died at the age of twenty-nine years, the greatest age ever recorded for a milking cow.
At eighteen years of age, when "Victoria" was bought by Messrs Korff Bros., of Campbelltown, New Sydney, she produced 15,5951b5. of milk and 473.351b5. fat. Two years later she was champion at the Sydney Royal Show, and even at the age of twenty-four, when she won [second prize, she gave 13,3131b5. of [milk and 5421b5. fat.
"Victoria's" only son, "Glengowan Victor," born when she was twentyyears old, has sired some of the greatest milk producers in Australia, while a daughter of hers, "Glengowan Joyce" held the Australian record as a two-year-old, producing 53,4331b5. milk and 2,296.91b5. fat in four lactations each of 273 days.
