TOMORROW'S TALKIES

TWO BIG FEATURES

SCREENING AT BOTH LEESTON

AND SOUTHBRIDGE

Two big outstanding talkies will be screened at both Leeston and

Southbridge on Saturday, the man-

agement having- agreed to do so on repeated requests from patrons who would like to see both features, and following the success of a similar experiment which was made a few weeks ago. One of the loig pictures is "Charlie McCarthy, Detective," featuring Edgar Bergen and his two inseparables, Charlie McCarthy and Mortimer Snerd. Charlie does a little Sherlock Holmesing in this offering. He is presented as a night club entertainer who gets involved in a baffling society murder and who, with Bergen and Snerd solves the mystery. It is a bright and

breezy comedy with some good songs. The second is the long-looked for "Balalaika" in which that popular singing star, Nelson Eddy has a prominent part. This great musical feature is a story of Russia during the Czarist regime, when, under the surface of gaiety are smoulding the fires of revolt and the dashing dreaded Cossacks are the objects of hatred among the disgruntled ones. The picture is filled with exciting and sparkling action, rousing songs and .thundering horsemen. Nelson Eddy is seen as a Cossack leader and has many fine songs to sing. Ilona Massey is the feminine lead; a new discovery with a splendid voioe and charming personality. The gay life of the days before the war of 1914 are reproduced in the numerous brilliant scenes and the picture provides in a sensatisonal way a splendid story in a setting rich with music, mirth and melody. "Balalaika" will be first screened at Leeston and, patrons at both Leeston and Southbridge would be well-advised to be early in order to secure seats. The performance will start promptly at eight o'clock.
