SOLDIER HONOURED
The Irwell schoolroom was crowded on the occasion, the other evening, of the social at which Gunner W. Millar, of Irwell, was the guest of honour. Cards and dancing were enjoyed, the music being played by Mrs Norquay.
At the presentation ceremony Mr John Brooks, president of the Irwell Patriotic Committee, was in the chair. In speaking of the guest of the evening, he said that Gunner Millar was most popular in the district, where ihe had lived all his life. He had played for the Football Club and had also joined in the social activities of the district. He was the son of Mr and Mrs T. Millar, ihighly respected residents of the district for many years. Mr Brooks, on behalf of the residents, wished the guest of the evening every success in his great adventure and a .safe return. The gift of the residents consisted of ,a money belt and a set of military hair brushes.
Mr W. S. McLaughlin spoke on behalf of the Returned Soldiers' Association, conveying their good wishes to Gunner Millar.
Mrs J. Coe, speaking on behalf of the Red Cross Sub-centre, referred to the help that Mrs Millar had given to the organisation and said that members greatly regretted that she was leaving the district. She would take with her their sincerest good wishes for the future.
