THE SOUTHBRIDGE UNIT
The Southbridge unit paraded last night and one squad was drilled with the recently-issued rifles. Two sergeants were present from Burnham Camp and further instruction was given in the use of the Lewis machine-gun, this being the weapon which will be issued to the Home Guard in due course. Several more men were enrolled bringing the strength of the unit to 58. A class for recruits and N.C.O.'s will be held at the School • grounds on Thursday, 13th March, at 7 p.m., and all Home Guardsmen requiring further instruction are invited to attend.
More rifles are. urgently needed for the Guard. So far only 20 have been issued by the authoiities to tiie Ellesmere group which is now some 300 strong. There are a number of privately owned .303 rifles in the district and owners of these are earnestly requested to hand same on to the police to be lent to the guard for drilling.
