Lady Astor told a conference of Conservative teachers in London all about the modern child. She said: "Speaking to a so-called modern child the other day I got the impression that he had macle the world before he got into it. and had, just come back to >cc how it was getting on. The average eight-year-old to-day knows more than its mother knew, a!nd has seen more than its mother hag ever seen. If its grandmother had seen what it has seen she would have died of stock."
