Mr W. Smellie has returned from an extended visit to Australia. Mr and Mrs J. A. Creagh, of j Leeston, are at present on holiday lin the Island.
I • - Cr. P. V. Bailey has been appointed the representative of the | Springs County Council on tne i Canterbury Provincial Patriotic Committee. Mesdames P. F. Chamberlain (Dunsandel) and L. R, Barnett (Southbridge), who have been on a ten days visit to Marlborough and Nelson, are expected to return tomorrow. *
Much satisfaction has been expressed in the Ellesmere district at the decision of the Lincoln College Board of Governors to award the Bledisloe Medal to Mr H. J. Andrew, of Maheno, North Otago. The award is made annually to former Students of the college for noted service to the farming community. A son of the late Mr W. B. Andrew, Mr Henry Andrew spent the early part of his life at Southbridge and attended the school there. He has been for a number of years one of the leading stud sheep breeders and judges in the Dominion and has achieved a great deal of success as an exhibitor at the principal shows. Those who know Mr Andrew agree that the honour conferred upon him by the College Board is well deserved,
