Doyleston

At a social held last Saturday night in aid of the hall funds there' was a good attendance and a very pleasant evening was spent. The successful card players were Mesdames W. Smith and J. R. Godsell and Messrs C. Bishop and J. R. Godsell. Dance music was supplied by Lambie's Band and prizes for a Monte Carlo went to Miss Hudson and Mr J. Boal. Another social will be held next Saturday evening. The annual meeting of the Doyleston Athletic Club has been called for next Tuesday evening, when the future of the club will be considered. SUB-BRANCH OF RED CROSS SOCIETY On Friday afternoon a meeting of those interested in the formation of a sub-branch of the Red Cross Society at Doyleston was held. There was a good attendance and visitors were present from Leeston and Irwell. Mrs Dellow presided until the election of officers. Lady Wigram and Mrs Lowry from Christchurch were present and addressed the meeting on the work of the society. Mrs Hanna from Leeston also spoke on the work being done in the district. It was decided to form a subbranch and Mrs E. A. Johnson was elected president, Mrs C. F. Turner, secretary a'rfd Miss S. Bowis treasurer. Ail present were elected to the committee. It was also agreed to join the Ellesmere centre. After afternoon tea had been served a meeting of the committee took place at which it was decided to hold a dance on Saturday, November 18.
