OUTLET STILL OPEN

At the meeting of the Ellesmere Lands Drainage Board on Wednesday, the secretary, Mr G. L. Comer, mentioned that the outlet to Lake Ellesmere, which had been completed on July 8, was still open, a period of 17 weeks.

In his monthly report he stated, in reference to the outlet, that on October 20, when he made an inspection, the channel was about four chains wide and the level six inches below lake datum. The channel partially closed on Sunday and on Tuesday there was a small stream leading straight out to sea for a short distance and then turning, eastward and scouring well.

Mr Comer suggested that immediately the channel closed, the lake committee should make an inspection and consider whether it would be worth while excavating the channel in order to keep it open as long as

possible,
