At Southbridge

SANDY POWELL ON SATURDAY

Star of radio, stage, and screen, Sandy Powell, claimed as Britain's No. 1 comedian, is the central figure in "It's a Grand Old World," a comedy riot which will be shown at Southbridge Theatre on Saturday. Co-starred with Sandy is Cyril Ritchards, a well-known comedy star who has toured New Zealand on several occasions.

Sandy's one interest in life is football, and we find him attending a match when the film opens. He is on the dole, and is disgusted when the Labour Exchange finds him a job as stage hand at a theatre. Sandy finds two things at the theatre—the leading lady, Joan, with whom he falls in love, and a circus lion, which becomes the terror of his life. Sandy becomes a hero by accidentally catching the lion when it escapes and makes an enemy of the leading man by his attentions to Joan. He next wins a football pool, and £16,000. He proceeds to turn the theatre upside down, and buys Joan's old ancestral home, which has been put up for auction. This he gives back to the family. Sandy goes out to the ancestral home, and finds what he thinks are gangsters plotting murder and all kinds of villainy. Actually it is the production of a picture in which

Joan is starring, and Sandy ruins the scene through breaking in at the wrong moment.
