TRIBUTE TO BRITISH PRIME
MINISTER
(From The Guardian's London Correspondent)
LONDON, October 8
To commemorate the success of Mr Neville Chamberlain in averting war, Mr William Parkinson, a popular Blackpool sportsman, this week offered to build 12 houses for ex-Ser-vicemen, The houses will be presented to the corporation and the ex-soldiers and their families will live in them rent free. Mr Parkinson's
solicitors expressed the view, in making the offer, that as many towns as possible should do something by way of a tribute to Mr Chamberlain. "This is a noble and characteristic action by Mr Parkinson and is a magnificent and generous gesture," declared the Mayor. Mr William Parkinson, who is chairman of the Blackpool Football Club and president of the Cricket Club, is a brother to the late Sir Lindsay Parkinson, former Mayor of Blackpool and first M.P. of the borough.
