OVERLAND TO INDIA
LONG CAR JOURNEY
COMMENCED
(From The Guardian's London
Correspondent)
LONDON, Sept. 17
Political events in Europe did not deter four probationers in the Indian and Burma Civil Service from setting out this week from London on the first stage of their motor journey to India, where posts await them.
J. P. Gillespie, of Dunfermline, T. J. H. Hetherington, of Chelsea, P. Murray, of Rochester, and J. Sadler, of St. Andrews, decided to go by car instead of by sea. They will travel via France, Italy, Yugoslavia, Bulgaria, Turkey, Syria, Iraq, Iran, and Afghanistan, and hope to arrive at Kabul about November 10.
"It is more through the spirit of adventure that we have decided to motor to India rather than go by boat," said Mr Hetherington. "We find that, all things included, and mishaps barred, the cost will be about the same."
