Mrs A. H. Button, president, presided over a fair attendance of members of the Women's Institute at the monthly meeting, held in the Public Hall on Tuesday afternoon, which took the form of a Scotch afternoon. The roll call was "The tallest story I have ever heard." Most replies were Scotch and-very amusing. Two Scotch songs were sung by Mrs E. Carter, the accompanist being Miss Irene Woods. Final arrangements were made for a concert and dance to celebrate the sixth birthday of the institute. Invitations have been extended to neighbouring institutes and friends. -■"' _At the half-yearly exhibition of handwork held in the Latimer Hall on Wednesday by members of the 'North Canterbury Federation of Women's Institutes, the display of the Prebbleton group gained second place equal with Malvern group. ■+- ' The competitions, which were ~ judged by Mrs Chas. Moody and Mrs Jas. Payne, resulted as follows: — Senior division: Best bloom, Mrs E. Carter 1, Mrs W. D. Templeton 2, Mrs J. W. Stewart 3. Seed cake, Mrs W. D. Templeton 1, Mrs Chas. Watkins 2, Mrs A. H. Button 3. Hand-worked tea towel, Mrs Chas Watkins 1, Mrs E. Carter 2. Junior division: Best bloom, Miss Irene Woods 1, Miss Norma Peryman and Mrs J. Bennett equal 2, Miss Dulcie Moir 3. Seed cake, Mrs J. Bennett 1, Miss Irene Woods 2. Hand-worked tea towel, Miss Norma Peryman and Mrs J. Bennett equal 1-
The hostesses were Mesdames S. C. Birch, Chas. Watkins, and J. Bennett.
Miss Norma Peryman, of Lincoln, arrived at Wigram aerodrome by the air liner on Tuesday after spending a month's holiday in Blenheim.
Miss M. Young, the Lincoln schoolmistress, who is on sick leave, is being relieved by Miss Ace.
Mrs H. E. Peryman, senr., has returned from Southbrook, where she spent a holiday.
Mr and Mrs J. W. Stewart have returned home after spending a holiday in Blenheim.
Mr A. J. McMahon is relieving postmaster while Mr A. Davis is on annual leave.
Mr W. Boyd, stationmaster, has been transferred to Mt. Somers, and Mr M. T. Timings is now in charge at Lincoln.
Mr H. A. Inwood has left Lincoln to reside at Mt. Somers.
