PLUNKET BALL

LARGE ATTENDANCE AT AT LEESTON

A POPULAR FUNCTION

That the annual ball of the Ellesmere Plunket Society is in no danger of losing its reputation as one of the most popular of the winter season social functions was evident from the large and very representative attendance last night at the Leeston Town Hall. It is the one occasion in the year when the society is able to entertain all its supporters and is invariably looked forward to with much interest. As in previous years, a notable feature was the large proportion of married folk present. The guests all enjoyed themselves in thorough fashion, thanks to the excellent arrangements made under the direction of Mrs J. Coe as president and Mrs V. G. Mason as ball secretary. Autumn flowers decorated the stage and the tables in the supper room and the dance music was supplied by Jack Maybury's orchestra, while Lambie's orchestra played for the extras in splendid style. Mr R. H. Ford was in charge as master of ceremonies. Messrs Free Bros, excelled themselves in providing a supper concerning which many favourable comments were heard. With the hearty singing of Auld Lang Syne, the function concluded about two this morning. Among the many ladies present were Mesdames J, Coe, W. B. Cunningham, W. O. Rennie, W. McLachlan, F. H. Mcllraith, H. Schnelle, G. Nairn, E. Mclntyre, F. L. Graham, E. W. Hunt, W. A. Johnston (president of Lincoln branch), D. Taylor, M. H. Boyd, W. F. Lewitt, V. G. Mason, J. R. Godscil, C. G.
