On the application of the solicitor to the Public Trust Office, the Supreme Court has granted to the Public Trustee probate of the will of Arthur Tong, of Southbridge, farmer, who died on April 5. There was a large attendance from all parts of the district at the concert given at Doyleston by the Piping and Dancing Society of I Christchurch in aid of the funds of the Doyleston Athletic Club. The programme was an enjoyable one and the concert was in every way a success. On Wednesday evening while approaching the Doyleston bridge from, the north, a car which contained two occupants got into difficulties and landed in the Doyleston drain, where it capsized. The occupants escaped unhurt, and little material damage was done to the car which was subsequently removed. Mr Bert Stafford, the popular JLeeston owner, has been the recipient of hearty congratulations on the success of his horse, Pot Luck, in the grand final of the InterDominion Championship Event at Addington on Wednesday. Many followers of the sport in the district enjoyed a measure of good fortune with Mr Stafford. Information was sought by Cr. W. O. Rennie at yesterday's meeting iof the Ellesmere County Council as to when it was likely the main road between Ellesmere bridge and Doyleston would be reconstructed, j Cr. Anderson said that he under-, stood that the preparation work j would be done during the winter! and the sealing next summer. Cr Rennie said that the work had been I held up for a long time and some of the ratepayers were asking how long it would be before it was done. The Council had collected the money from the ratepayers and he thought that it should endeavour to have the job pushed on. It was decided, on his suggestion, that a letter should be sent to the Highways Board through the District Highways Council asking when the County Council could expect that the work would be commenced and hoping that a start would be made as soon as possible.
