ELLESMERE BAND
+. QUEEN CARNIVAL CAMPAIGN SOUTHBRIDGE-KILLINCHY-LITTLE RAKAIA SOCIAL. The campaign on behalf of the above queen was seriously commenced last evening when a dance and euchre were held in the anteroom of the Southbridge Town Hall. An enjoyable evening was spent by all, in the course of which the chairman took the opportunity of introducing Miss Jean Lemon, the local candidate for the carnival, to those present. Mr Anderson mentioned that the whole carnival effort was in aid of the Ellesmere Band, and stressed the fact that the band represented the whole of Ellesmere and not one particular district. It was the purpose of the band, he said, to hold practices once a week in Southbridge for those who desired to learn to play an instrument. A considerable amount of enthusiasm was shown by those present, and further functions will be announced in the near future. The m,usic was in the capable hands of Mr Reg. Lambie, while Mr S. McCartin proved a most efficient M.C. The card tournament was won by Mrs G. Hill with Mrs F. Greenwood second; Messrs Petrie and F. Greenwood. The Monte Carlo waltz was won by Miss M. Allen and Mr R. Lilley, while a competition for a box of sweets was won by Mrs Rowan.
