SOUTHBRIDGE
AFTERNOON CONCERT
YESTERDAY.
A' successful and enjoyable concert in aid of the forthcoming "All Nations Fair" for church funds, was given by Mr and Mrs Claude Davies and party, from Christchurch, in St. John's Hall yesterday afternoon, and was attended by a large and appreciative audience drawn from all parts of the district. Mrs R. R. Adair presided and welcomed the visitors, each of whom gave items in pleasing and creditable style and received encores. The programme opened with a pianoforte item by Mr Davies,. followed by vocal solos by Mrs Davies, "Laugh and Sing" and "The Wedding of Sarah Lee." Miss Wilkinson contributed the solo, "Joyous Bird" and gave as an encore, "Stay With Me, Summer." An amusing oneract play entitled "Suppressed Desires," by Susan Glaspdell, was cleverly acted by Mr and Mrs Davies and Mrs Wilkinson, who received much applause. After the play several solos were sung by Mrs Davies and Miss Wilkinson. A dainty afternoon tea was served by the ladies, and Misses Noeline Bennett and Alison Howatson successfully conducted a sweets stall in aid of the funds.
At the close of the concert, Mrs Adair proposed a hearty vote of thanks to Mr and Mrs Davies and party for their bright entertainment and for their kindness in coming out from Christchurch to assist the funds for the fair to be held early next year. PERSONAL. Mr and Mrs Boyle and daughter, Miss Evelyn Boyle, of Blenheim, are visiting relatives at Southbridge, and will leave later for Timaru.
