EASY DIVORCE

UNITED KINGDOM NOW LEADS

THE WORLD.

(From The Guardian's Special Corres-

pondent—By Air Mail)

LONDON, July 31

On a visit to London, Judge Louis Bret Hart, of New York State, has expressed the opinion that Britain is streets ahead of America in divorce matters, now that the New Divorce Bill has passed.

"You think of America as the home of divorce," challenged this man of 68, who has been happily married for 40 years. "There is easy divorce in some parts of the country, but in my State—New York—misconduct is still the only ground. We are conservative, rightly so, I think. Our trouble is that every State has its own views. We'll have to do it again—copy you and introduce a Federal law for the whole country. And that won't be easy. The grounds set out in your new Bill seem very fair to me, and I've been thirtythree years on the Bench.

"Reno is a racket, but Reno is not America. Just remember that you are leading the world now in 'easy divorce.' "
