MODERN TEACHING

TELEVISION APPARATUS

TO BE USED.

(From The Guardian's Special Corres-

pondent—By Air Mail)

LONDON, July 17,

School becomes more and more interesting as science devises new methods of teaching. A new television apparatus which will produce clear pictures on a screen five feet square has been designed for use in schools and in fairly large halls. Children, sitting in class, will be able to see history as well as hear about it. Languages, geography, scientific subjects can all be "brought to life" by this new process.

The working of the apparatus was demonstrated at the Baird laboratories. Pictures were seen in which the detail was remarkable. There were none of the flickers and lines which have been a characteristic of television reception.

The apparatus is like a small cinema projector, about two feet wide and four feet high. The picture is thrown on to the screen by a lens in the manner of the old-time magic

lantern
