OBITUARY

MR JAMES MORRISON.

There passed away at his home in Broad street, Southbridge^ a veryold and highly respected resident, Mr James Morrison, at the age of 90 years. He was born in 1847 at Malew, Isle of Man, and in 1869 wag married to Miss Elizabeth Eleanor Quayle by the Rev. W. Gill, vicar of Malew Anglican Church. Three years later he and Mrs Morrison sailed from London in the ship Mairope, bound for New Zealand. During his early residence in this district, Mr Morrison was in the employ of the late Messrs C. Bourne and J. R. Campbell at "Homebrook" estate, now known as Homebrook Soldiers' Settlement, and also served with the late Mr W. D. Lawrence at "Ravensworth" estate, Leeston. Later he was in the employ of Messrs W. Scott and Co., grain merchants, of Southbridge, for a long period. He was held in high esteem by his neighbours and was of a kind and genial disposition. Mr Morrison was a member of the Southbridge Bowling Club, was keenly interested in all kinds of sport, and until he was laid aside by illness was a familiar spectator on the local sports fields. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs E. A. Inwood, and by several grandchildren. Mrs Morrison passed away about 10 years ago.

There was a large and representative gathering of relatives and friends at the funeral, the interment taking place in the Anglican portion of the Ellesmere Public Cemetery. The service was conducted by the Rev. C. L. Wilson, and the bearers were Messrs A. Inwood (Ashburton), N. Inwood (Leeston), K. Inwood (Christchurch) and W. Inwood (Waikari).
