LAST NIGHT'S RESULTS.

LARGE ATTENDANCE OF

PUBLIC

The interest which the Ellesmere people take in the musical, elocutionary and dramatic competitions held under the auspices of the Presbyterian Church shows no sign of waning, judging by the large attendance which filled the Town Hall, Leeston, last night, when the first night's classes of the present session were judged. The many different items were followed with much interest, and although the programme was a long one it was bright and entertaining to the last. New classes had been added and these received fair support. The final item of the evening was a one-act play, by Brookside Women's Institute. - It was one of two entries in the class for one-act plays, and the second one, by St. John's Dramatic Club, will be presented to-morrow night, when the result will be announced.

The judges are: Miss N. Hooper, L.T.C.L., elocution; and Miss C. Bell, L.R.S.M., musical. Thorough and painstaking work had been performed in the preparations for the competitions by the committee in charge, Misses C. Lemon and E. Mawson, Messrs A. Baylis, E. Houston, A. J. Ormandy, Rev. D. N. Pryor (chairman) and Mrs G. Rodgers, the enithusiastic and energetic secretary. The work was well done and everything proceeded smoothly and according to schedule.
