NIGHT CIRCLE
MEETING AT LEESTON.
The monthly meeting of the Night Circle was held in the Band Hall. Mrs A. Fussell (vice-president) presided over a large attendance. The resignation of the president, Mrs N. Jones, was received. To fill the vacancy on the committee, Miss Joan McLachlan was elected and Miss R. Bowden was unanimously elected president.
An invitation was received from the Brookside Institute to attend its birthday party this evening. The motto for the evening was "When you are up to the neck in water, be like the kettle and sing." It was decided to change the night of the meetings from the third Monday in the month to Tuesday evening every four weeks, so that members may belong to the Ellesmere Choral Society and also attend Night Circle regularly.
In a most interesting address Mrs J. Smyth, "Ravensworth," gave a description of Ireland, the people and their habits. Photographs of various places of historic interest were shown. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mrs Smyth.
An amusing competition for a hat made in three minutes from a sheet of paper and four pins was won by Mrs Fussell, with Miss C. Cooke second and Miss S. Martin third.
Mrs Smyth and Mrs Healey acted as judges. In the monthly competition for the most artistic nightdress, Mrs Fussell was the winner, with Miss C. Cooke second. Another competition for the most artistic nightdress or pyjamas made by competitor was won by Miss M. Wakeling, with Miss M. Rickerby and Mrs Fussell equal second, and Mrs Fussell third.
The roll coll, "My favourite actor and actress," was well responded to. The hostesses were Misses P. Bray, R. Arbuckle, B. Merriman and N. Jones. The meeting was brought to a close with the singing of the Institute ode.
