SOUTHBRIDGE TALKIES
"HEART'S DESIRE" TO-MORROW,
Richard Tauber's enthralling voice has never been heard to better advantage than in "Heart's Desire," due for screening at the Southbridge Town Hall to-morrow evening. First and foremost, the film is excellent musical entertainment, with an appealing story artistically interpreted by a distinguished cast. The story knits firmly together the musical sequences of which the film is largely made up. It tells of a beer-garden singer's romance and rise to fame. Tauber takes the role of Josef Steidler, a shy Austrian peasant, who is "discovered" by Frances Wilson (Leonora Corbett), a young society woman commissioned by her brother (George Graves) to find talent for new operatic productions. He is persuaded to leave his happy surroundings and his sweetheart, Anna (Kathleen Kelly) for fame in" London. "Heart's Desire" is splendidly mounted. The Austrian mountain landscapes, the scenes in the beer-garden and in busy London are all excellent.
Included in an excellent supporting programme is the latest comi-colour-ed cartoon entitled "Mother Hubbard."
