UNITED CLUB.
SUCCESSFUL YEAR REVIEWED
There was an attendance of 19 members of the United Club at the annual meeting at Springston South last night, Mr J. g. Simpson presiding, in the absence of the president, Mr J. H. Williams. A motion of sympathy with Mr Williams in the illness of his wife was carried, members expressing the hope that she would soon be restored to good health. The balance-sheet showed that the club had a credit balance of £9. It commenced the year with a credit of £5 18s Bd, the total income for the year being £52 8s 3d and the expenditure £43 8s 3d. The chairman commented upon the very satisfactory nature of the year's work. The annual report, presented by the secretary, Mr O. T. Bailey, stated that the year had been a successful one, but there was still a number of members who had not paid subscriptions. There had been a heavy call upon the injured players' fund, but all had been met and the fund had a credit balance of £4 10s lOd. Although unsuccessful in the competitions, the club's teams had played some interesting and keenly contested games. The annual ball had also been a success, the profit being £6 19s sd. The thanks of the club were due to the president for his interest in and work on behalf of the club, to the ladies who supplied afternoon tea, to the Guardian," and to all others who had assisted the club in any way. The balance-sheet of. the injured players' fund showed that the year had been commenced with a credit balance of £2 18s 6d and the receipts for the year amounted to £26 17s 6d. The expenditure was £22 6s 4d, leaving a credit balance of £4 10s lOd. Mr P. Bailey commented upon the satisfactory nature of the fund and lon the useful work which the club was doing through it, which was not equalled by any .other club in the sub-union. The club had experienced I more than its share of injured players, and it was only fair that it should be able to give assistance at least so far as the payment of medical expenses. That would be some compensation for the loss of time suffered by the injured players. He hoped that the club would continue to maintain the fund in a satisfactory condition and then there would be no need to consider insurance. The reports were adopted. ELECTION OF OFFICERS.
