SOUTHBRIDGE TALKIES

SATURDAY'S PROGRAMME

The big special Columbia attraction, "It Happened One Night," with the two great stars, Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert, will head the programme to be presented at the Southbridge Town Hall on Saturday evening next.

It was evidently to be expected that "It Happened One Night" would rank high among the year's best. That it has surpassed even the most ambitious estimates is a tribute to the fine acting of the two stars, the direction of Capra, Riskin's sparkling script, and the elaborate production afforded it by the Columbia Studios.

Gable, as the cynical, rough newspaper reporter, Peter Warne, is again the Gable the fans want to see. He treats Claudette rough and she likes it. Miss Colbert, as the runaway heiress, Ellen Andrews, is human, lovable, and tantalising. The screen story tells of an heiress who has married a worthless playboy against her father's wishes. Her father kidnaps her and holds her prisoner aboard his yacht in Florida until he can get the marriage annulled. Ellen escapes and tries to get north to join her husband. Supports include a sports thrill, screen snapshots, and a Krazy Kat
