LORD MAYOR'S SHOW
AGRICULTURE TO BE REPRESENTED.
(From the Guardian's Special Correspondent—By Air Mail). LONDON, October 12. On Lord Mayor's Show Day this year—November 9—the farmers of England will be represented in London. This decision has given the National Farmers' Union and other agricultural bodies a wonderful opportunity of bringing the life and labour of the countryside vividly before London crowds. Sir Percy Vincent, the new Lord Mayor, is a Norfolk man. He was born at Watton, in the Breckland, whence he came to London at the age of 13 to seek his fortunes in the drapery business. His birth in so famous an agricultural county doubtless inspired his wish to have a country show. The chance given to farmers for some picturesque London publicity is well appreciated, and plans are maturing for a first-class show in which both livestock and products will have a place. Although the National Farmers' Union has not decided on the form its representation shall take, a suggestion which finds favour is that for each of the three chief cereals — wheat, barley and oats—there shall be a car drawn by four horses, exhibiting sheaves of grain. There will also be loaves of bread, barrels of beer and other products, with typical rural attendants. A.team of each of the three English heavy breeds §f horse—the Shire, the Suffolk Punch and the Percheron—it is suggested, should be used for the cars, and if they have anything like the quality of the crack teams seen at this summer's shows the horses alone will be a fine sight. fl Among other tableaux will be one arranged by the Milk Board. The fruit and vegetable branch of farming also is to be represented, and possibly the great industry of commercial horticulture.
