SOUTHBRIDGE TALKIES
NEXT SATURDAY'S PROGRAMME
"Peck's Bad Boy," which will be screened at Southbridge Town Hall on Saturday evening next, will provide excellent entertainment for both adults and youngsters. It has warm human interest, natural sympathystirring drama, comedy, tragedy and unaffected tenderness and sincerity. Jackie Cooper, in the title role, as Bill Peck, adds something new to the famous story of a mischievous, misunderstood boy. This moving, yet amusing tale, which is reborn beautifully in its talking film version, owes its success to the 'deft handling of the director, Edward F. Cline, as well as to the fine performances of the entire cast. Thomas Meighan, returning to the screen after a long absence, plays Mr Peck with fine understanding. Jackie Searl, Hollywood's leading exponent of youthful villainy, is very effective as the mean little Horace. Dorothy Peterson, hitherto identified with "sweet" mother roles, plays Aunt Lily, the shrewdly malicious woman who attempts to replace Bill with her own Horace in Mr Peck's affections. Shirley Temple, the wonder star, will be seen in the very humorous feature, "Pardon My Pups," while a cartoon and a double issue Fox News will complete another first-rate family programme.
